Sweet Yellow Bird: Silly

Sweet Yellow Bird: Silly

I found this on my moms blog. Why am I so serious all the time with a mom like this? I love her youthful ways.

Cubby and Scoopy

Jacob blows our minds nowadays. He is constantly working on his dot to dots- I think he is truly addicted. He'll do one that gets up to 2000 in he space of an hour. I don;t honestly think I could do it that fast. He reads like crazy too. Our older two weren't so proficient at reading at his age- he's not even in Kindergarden yet. He's our easiest kid right now, he's independent, and he's the peacemaker (moms especially love the peacemaker kid) in our family, he's silly a lot, and he's quiet and he has this big toothy smile that I love.

This is his latest lapbook on Bald Eagles.

I went downstairs to put a bottle in the fridge around 3am and found Cubby asleep on the kitchen table.

Jacob is the most willing to give in to Scarlet's demands. He spends a lot of time with her.
In this picture, they are making "Unicorn Poop" cookies. Classy, I know. Scarlet was loving the Unicorn idea. We should have made them less cinnamon bun and more ploppy...

Scarlet created her first fairyland, it was an important moment.
It's like a rite of passage in the Eaton home. She did a lovely job.

The other day Tim got in a hot tub at the pool with Scarlet and she said, "It's spicy in here."
Spicy as in "hot" water.

Whenever Ezra cries Scarlet starts singing the "Winnie the Pooh" song. She thinks it stops his crying.
Speaking of Winnie, here's a recent Jared quote:

"Mark is like Rabbit now. He's nuts about his garden lately."

We can always count on Uncle J for a Winnie the Pooh metaphor.

Besties

The kids found this piece of beehive and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Cool enough to get out the microscopes (30 x magnification microscopes are great).

Every Wednesday us three get to spend the evening in the city together. Jane and Charlie entertain each other the whole time. It reminds me of being with my best friend Linds when I was a kid- it didn't matter what we were doing or where (usually waiting for a ride), it was fun b/c we always had fun being together.

Jane quotes:

Jane: This chapstick smells sneaky?

Me: What do you mean sneaky?

Jane: It reminds me of something sneaky Emma and I did once but I can't
remember. She was 7 and I was 6.

One time we were at the University library and I was getting nerdy excited about all the new books. We picked out a thousand, but then they told us we couldn't check books out from that part of the library. Then out of no where, in response to my frustration, Jane comes up with this obscure Anne of Green Gables line:
"Mom, you know there are some things that cannot be expressed in words."

If any one wants, feel free to call Jane to hear her say this line from Chicken Run:
"I don't want to be a pie, I don't like gravy."
Maybe I will post a video b/c her accent is bang on.

Jane had a special two weeks at Grammy's house trip. It was her first time by herself but I'm pretty sure her fears are long gone now. Grammy did a few sewing projects with her. These owls are one of them. She made one for all five of the kids. They all pack them around all over the place.

This is one of Charlie's latest projects. He has some small survival projects going on. These are fire starters. You cut out one egg section and it's a handy-dandy-ready-to-go-light-your-fire-quick-thing. He  was awesome about doing it totally on his own. It was cute watching him out the window, while he gathered all his materials.

Charlie is an expert Fat Boother. He loves doing it so much. This one was particularly believable:

Poetry in the Park

We are having a "Poetry in the Park" day this month for recitation. Jane is going to do her Elegy in a Churchyard by Thomas Gray. Jacob learned four verses or "All Things Bright and Beautiful" (I like how it is all about nature) and Scarlet learned the first verse (she loves doing her poem at recitation- I wouldn't have been caught dead doing that when I was three). Charlie is going to recite "The Arrow and the Song" by Longfellow. This poem is great for him because it's story like and he's interested in bows and arrows right now, but the best part is how it reminds us of our dear friend Milo. Milo used to visit and recite Longfellow to us. So we always think of Milo when we read this poem because he inspired us to love Longfellow. Charlie is planning a little visit to his house soon so he can recite a poem for him in return.

The Arrow and the Song.
"The Arrow and the Song," by Longfellow (1807-82)

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

Henry W. Longfellow.

Squishy

We made sparkly, yummy smelling playdo today for some of our little friends.

Ezra is the Best!

Thanks Lindsay and Uncle Dave and Heather.

On April 16, Ezra rolled over at 3 and a half months.
He weighs 17 pounds at a week shy of 4 months old.
He drools a lot- almost as much as Jacob did.
He always chews on his hands (mostly fists).
 He's super smiley.
He gets startled easily. We are all constantly startling him.
He's squishy and lovable.
He makes me want one more baby.

Choopy is 7

We had a party at Grammy's with everyone there. Charlie was wired. I think it had to do with having a jillion presents...

My brother. Super handsome. We share a love for marshmallows so this is for him:

Easter

Happy Easter!!

Instead of hunting for chocolate eggs, we hide little colored Easter chicks like these:

I don't know why, but my kids live for these things. They get so excited and then I don't have to worry about the chocolate buzz or millions of tinfoil wrapper pieces all over my house.

After the hunt, we had a special Easter lunch. I filled each plastic egg with a snack.

Scarlet was occupied for a long time with this Easter vinyl.

Then we went to Grammy and Baba's for more Easter fun. Grammy had sewed sweet little Easter dresses for the girls and she had fun toys and gifts from Iran for all of us. We just hung around the house mostly but it was so nice to be home. I love spending time with my family and it's getting more an more fun as our family grows. My parents stuffed us with amazing food the entire time and we played lots of late night games. Eli had a talk on Sunday- I was so happy we could be there to hear it since we usually miss that kind of stuff.

Jared has a car business called Pace Auto. He just started and he
already sold a car while we were there.

Eli's friend opened this cool restaurant called Chopped Leaf so we went there for lunch to check it out.

I just realized that almost every picture of Isabelly that I have is with Timmy. He loves her!
